Beauty from Ashes

Recently my husband and I visited Costa Rica. What a beautiful country to behold the majesty of God. As typical tourists we left the hotel each morning trying to capture every experience the country displayed for us. Much to my surprise the Creator spoke most clearly to me in an unexpected, unassuming way while we were there. On a hike up to a volcano named Arenal was my encounter with an unusual sight. Arenal actually erupted about forty years ago. As lava poured down from the volcano it took many lives. The lava has since hardened into volcanic rocks and ashes. We hiked on top of these rocks and ashes and lo and behold what do we find- beautiful orchids growing out of the ashes left behind the destruction. What God whispered to me was that even though volcanoes have erupted in my own life, He was able to bring beauty out of ashes not just in nature but in me as well. Even though I have seen things destroyed before my very own eyes, God can and will bring beauty out in the most unexpected places. I just need to be looking.

Isaiah 61:3 “To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;”
